Homes that are ready. Arrays that are not funded.

A shovel-ready project is a Habitat build where the roof, the family and the permits are already in hand. The only thing missing is the array. Sponsorships are assigned by build date, so a commitment lands on a specific roof.

What makes a project shovel-ready

Five things have to line up before an array can go on a Habitat build.

A roof
Under ten years old, with southern exposure.
A family
A partner family who is interested in saving money on their electric bill.
A utility
An electricity provider that allows solar net metering.
An installer
A trusted professional solar installer who stands by their work.
A funder
Someone who can help make solar accessible to low-income families.

What a sponsor is actually supporting

A 5 kW array is 12–14 panels and produces 6,000 to 7,000 kilowatt-hours a year.
